Romance/MM/Sharing
Some fiends and I decided to start reading heated rivalry for bookclub back in December because of the TV Show. I have not watched the show or heard much about it at this point. I told a coworker of mine about it and she agreed to read it with me since she discovered I read romance, reluctantly, and wanted to share in this genre together.
Boy did I not realize how big this was going to be! I like the story well enough, but really I think the show is what has skyrocketed this to the cultural phenomenon that is has grown into. Like of course, we all know MM romance has existed and TGCF was not as big with the populous as this is. So to me this book is fine it is not revolutionary when it comes to things I have read, but for things I have watched that I think is where it differs. I am seeing people not deep in fandom, said coworker friend included. I mentioned if they have read any fanfics regarded the subject and they responded with "nah they write weird stuff in there." I did not say much except that she should allow herself to be cringe but this is what I mean. This has seeped into popular culture and I think that is fun and cool especially for a tv show about two queer men falling in love. Does it have it's problem sure, but they are in love and really we are all happy about it.
Then I read "The will to change" not related to this but because it has been on my TBR for a while and my brain was sparking random threads of connection.
Is a reason we like MM and perhaps why it is huge right now with heated rivalry is because we see men with emotion? Something so rarely seen, men giving genuine love to one another? Maybe, I don't know this is just speculation but I can see it.
I have spoken about this to friends before, but I really do enjoy how romance can bring people together. I don't like the contemporary romance genre but I can still read it because my friends like it, they get excited about it and have different types of romance tropes they can explore with them. This brings in mind ...
erotic stories for punjabi widows and how in a similar way, the women find community over their shared fictional writing on romance and eroticisms. I think it's because we all wish to be loved, and connected in some kind of way. Romance just does the job for most I think.
Seeing this has opened me up to try and read more of the romance genre, still critical of it, but less inclined to wrinkle my nose when one is handed to me. I think romance like horror are a great way to see what the majority of the populous are thinking, what are they reflecting about out society? That is why I can appreciate horror and love horror films and I should really extend that same love to well.. love.
New Year New Me
I want to make new years resolutions I think they are fun and I do try to do them, but I didn't want a quantitative number, I wanted a qualitative goal, but I was not sure how to accomplish it. Thank you shamless nerd for leading me in a direction. In their video they mention making a new year theme, so anything you do after will follow that said theme. I was like YEAH that sounds cool that sounds nice!
I think this year will be the year of #growth, everything I do will be for growing myself, others, relationships, opportunities, etc WHATEVER I THINK WILL FIT and I think that is what I did last year, as that was the year of discovery, discovery of myself and the world around me. Now that I have that to some degree I want to grow upon the ground I find myself in.
My Mind is Making up Movies
I asked for the spiderverse movies for Christmas, which I thankfully received. I watched them recently with the second movie ending in a cliffhanger. My partner asked where the third movie was at? My brain then decided to fool me into thinking I knew the ending to the spiderverse movie explaining what happens next and that we should watch it the following day.
I look up the movie the next day only to see it has to come out, and won't come out until 2027. what? What movie was I thinking off???? Anyways well, I have that to look forward too.
Now. I LOVE the spiderverse movies, if you looked in my sketchbook you can clearly see how much inspiration I take from those movies
We love hobie brown in this household, and all the spiders really.
UGH GUYS I REALLY LOVE THESE MOVIES. I am going to rewatch them and try to draw and capture any cool scenes I see.
