What I like about Natlan
Steps over the obvious problems. I have heard many things about this region so I went into it trying to find the possible good in this region. So what did I like about this Natlan.
The exploration/the saurian.
The saurian are so cute and I love that they always try different ways to incorporate it with the world, using the saurian and the Natlan characters made the whole region feel cohesive. These people and creatures live in this land, they have adapted to it and it is baked in their everyday movement. Do I want this outside of Natlan, no not really, because that is not their element. Also seeing the saurian just exist in the world instead of enemies simply waiting to clap my cheeks is very mesmerizing in its own way.
The region also feels very big; everything seems so open and vast with various amount of intrigue. I love just walking around and that was something I had not felt like doing since Mondstadt.
The music.
This is one I will keep short as I will expand another reason why I like the music in a moment. I have always enjoyed Genshin’s soundtrack and Natlan so far is no exception. Lot’s of trumpets, rain sticks, pan flutes, drums and trumpets are all very relaxing. I can not explain the mood except “Jurassic park esk”
The theme of the AQ quest in my opinion
What I gathered from the AQ quest is that Natlan is the nation of community and togetherness. You meet people from each tribes, but they are not separate. They each have their own aesthetic and quirks but mesh well within each of the other tribes. Each tribe is not independent and they help each other out with their own unique strengths. There is not major in fighting within the tribes possibly because there are bigger fish to fry which helps in unifying people.
I like the themes of family and togetherness. We see different aspects of family, we see the blood related, the found family, and the tribal family. I am not sure what other combination exists but I feel you will find something in Natlan XD. They worry about each other, they fight alongside each other, they feel loss together. Never is there a “lone wolf” not even Ororon and he lives in a random spot outside of his village. He is not an outcast, he outcasted himself and even still no one wishes him ill will (well now). I would say maybe ajaw, but even then he has cacucu.
More on this theme, I like the inclusion of the NPCs during the war, I am glad we got to meet and talk to the NPCs and meet with them repeatedly and not the vision holders we have met, because it is not just them fighting this war, everyone is fighting. Seeing who we saved at the end of that almost made me cry not going to lie. It didn’t hit me in any other region when they did this for whatever reason, but I enjoyed it here. Warriors from the Children of Echoes you guys were my favorite, and the courier.
Back to the music I usually am not fond of vocals, but chenyu vale has changed my mind, but I feel it works extremely well in Natlan because everyone is fighting for this land, everyone here has a part in their world and you can feel it in some songs when you hear a chorus accompanying the instruments. Ugh Ah I love it so so so so much.
Ororon and Citlali’s little arc and relationship dynamic hit me close to home, I have family like this and seeing them argue and bicker with worry and concern, ugh it tugs at my little fragile heartstrings.
The ancient name thing does confuse me but I like what they were trying to do with those warriors that came before, how their efforts and their stories are not forgotten but passed from generation to generation. They are alive in parts within the community they had help protect in their own way long ago. Mauvika time leap and her motivation to preserve that history makes more sense. Like of course she doesn’t want to erase that history, sure they would technically be ok, but they no longer would be “Natlan” the people who have died would be forgotten and that is something that goes against the culture of the nation.
Anyways I think that it lol
I have not done the sidequests/worldquests/or tribe quests but if it lends more to the theme, I am honestly very excited to keep exploring honestly.
